This is it folks the first chance to RSVP for the second official Eastern KansaS Arachnid Society field trip. those planning to attend must contact me with an RSVP no later than 11:00PM on Friday, June 26th. Please either contact me by responding to this E-mail, or by replying to this thread. here are the essentials of the trip.
When: Saturday June 27th from 5pm to approximately 11:00pm
Where: near Riverview Park, El Dorado, KS (at the intersection of Central/254 and River rd.)
What's going down: The trip will kick off in the parking lot of River view park at 5 where there will be a small social til about 5:30 while members arrive. At this point we will all carpool to the collecting site which is approximately 1 mile away via country road. there is no parking here, so cars will be left safely in the riverview parking lot. Once all members are at the collecting site the fun will commence for real, as the area contains all sorts of fascinating creatures including, but not limited too Tarantulas, tiger centipedes, striped bark scorpions, and even though this is primarily an invertebrate based field trip, there will be plenty of reptiles as well including collared lizards, skinks, narrowmouth toads, snakes, box turtles, and other critters too! the sun will set at around 8:45pm at which point the group will return to the parking lot and meet for a dinner social at a local restraunt to be decided by the group majority. once dinner is over at approximately 9-9:30pm, those interested in night time collecting will return to the collecting spot till about 11pm or so. The night time trip will be primarily for those interested in hunting for scorpions with blacklights. i hope it will be a fun trip for everyone who comes.
for those of you who have never embarked on such a mission before, here's some timps for what to bring:
clothes that are durable and you dont mind getting messed up or dirty
a waterbottle is defintitely a must
a bag to hold supplies
containers to place captured specimens in (i will try to provide some, but its always good to have your own just in case)
Tongs or forceps to help catch critters you might not want to pick up with your bare hands
a portable blacklight for catching scorpions at night(again i will try to provide, but may not have enough for everyone)
That's about it. so please RSVP soon so that this trip can be planned out to its maximum potential. i hope you all come, it's going to be a blast.
Regards,
John Doornbos.
